Ballechin is the well-known brand of the Edradour distillery, which offers its heavily peated distillates under this name. In The Discovery Series by Ballechin, the Edradour distillery gives lovers of smoky Single Malts the opportunity to experience different cask maturations and the associated influence on the whisky. The Discovery Series dates back to the early days when Andrew Symington took over the Edradour distillery. The Bourbon Cask #6 matured exclusively in a Bourbon cask. Uncoloured and without chill filtering, this Ballechin found its way into the bottles.

Kommentar: Angenehmer Rauch, fruchtige Süße. Guter Malt, der ein wenig Tiefe vermissen lässt.

Aroma: intensiver, aber angenehmer, weicher, süßer Rauch, gut eingebunden in viel cremige Süße, Vanille, Honig, Karamell und erdig-ledrige Edradour-Noten

Geschmack: Süß. Cremig. Süß. Geräucherter Marzipan-Nougat-Riegel mit Vanillesoße. Etwas Leder, leichte, würzige Schärfe.

Abgang: Lange, cremige Süße, angenehmer, leicht bitterer Rauch, Vanille, Karamell...

Kommentar: Saulecker. Mein Liebling aus der Discovery-Serie. Toller, charaktervoller Rohbrand, gutes Bourbonfass, ordentlich Rauch -> Spitzenwhisky, das geht, auch ohne ausgefallenes Weinfinish. Schade, dass die Serie eingestellt ist, aber der 10er ist ein würdiger Standard-Nachfolger.

Aroma: Sehr rauchig; durch den Rauch lassen sich fruchtige Aromen riechen

Geschmack: Sehr kräftig; man schmeckt die 46% Alkohol

Abgang: Der Rauch bleibt lange im Mund; macht einen eher trockenen Mund

Kommentar: das Bourbon-Cask kommt nur sehr zaghaft durch; der hohe Alkoholanteil ist sehr dominant
