Glenfiddich has ventured out of its comfort zone with the Orchard Experiment and presents with this bottling a Single Malt that has been refined for four months in Somerset Pomona casks. Somerset Pomona is a liqueur based on a secret blend of the juice of fine apples and Somerset Cider Brandy. The result is a summery, fruity whisky.

Aroma: Tatsächlich erinnert mich die Nase an frische Früchte, wie grüne Äpfel und helle Trauben. Birnen, wie bei Glenfiddich häufig, rieche ich nur sehr dezent. Man könnte das Empfundene auch in Richtung saure Gummibärchen interpretieren. Apfelwein würde ich auch gelten lassen. Töne von frischem Holz sind nur am Rande bemerkbar. (22)
Geschmack: Ich hatte zunächst einen süßen, fruchtigen Antritt erwartet, wurde jedoch gleich mit säuerlich, herbem Start eines Anderen belehrt. Die Apfelweinnoten machen sich hier deutlicher bemerkbar. Mit viel Fantasie kann ich die vom Hersteller beschriebene Zimt- und Karamellzucker-Note ausmachen. Es fehlt insgesamt etwas an Volumen. (20)
Abgang: Definitiv weniger herb als auf der Zunge und eher mittellang. Dennoch bleiben leicht säuerliche Noten durchaus bis zum Schluss erhalten. Sie werden nur abgemildert durch einen Touch Vanillepudding. (20)
Kommentar: Es kommt halt immer darauf an, was man konkret erwartet. Wer eine süßliche Gartenobstbombe ersehnt wird enttäuscht sein. Ich betrachte hier primär das interessante Experiment mit den verwendeten Fässern und das muss man den Grant‘s schon lassen – sie haben dafür den nötigen Mut (auch das nötige Kleingeld) und die nachhaltige Inspiration (das gibt von mir einen Sonderpunkt).
