Kilchoman Machir Bay is the flagship of the independent distillery. The Single Malt has a classic maritime and smoky character that is on a par with the well-known Islay greats. The Single Malt was largely created from 6-year-old malts. In addition to ex-bourbon casks, a small amount of Oloroso sherry casks were used.

After more than 125 years, the Kilchoman farm distillery is the first new distillery to be built on the island of Islay.     Kommentar: Gut möglich, dass ich einfach eine wirklich gute Charge erwischt habe oder grundsätzlich leichter zu begeistern bin, als manch anderer Whisky-Connaisseur - für mich ist der "Machir Bay", vor allem in Hinblick auf das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis, ein echtes Brett geworden - und das bereits schon ohne Altersangabe. Sollten da künftig vielleicht wirklich 10 oder 12-jährige Standards von diesem Bottling kommen, wird man natürlich die Preisgestaltung im Auge behalten müssen. Bleibt die weiterhin im Rahmen, muss man bei Kilchoman die Konkurrenz von Laphroaig 10 oder Ardbeg 10 (und Bowmore 12 erst recht nicht) nicht fürchten.

    Wer zu Beginn des Genusses der Flasche etwas Geduld mitbringt und für vergleichsweise wenig Geld seine ersten Schritte auf Islay und im Bereich Rauch gehen will, der sollte bei dieser noch verhältnismäßig kleinen Farm-Brennerei ruhig als erstes Halt machen. Bei mir wird der "Machir Bay" definitiv seinen festen Platz im Regal bekommen, wo er zusätzlich auch optisch eine tolle Figur macht.
