Product description
The Lindores Abbey distillery in the Scottish Lowlands is located in a former abbey that borders the Highlands to the east. Spirits have been distilled there again since 2017. The limited edition bottling from the Casks of Lindores range was created in STR Wine Barriques. STR stands for "Shaved, Toasted, Re-charred" and refers to a process for preparing used red wine barrels, which was developed by whisky expert Dr Jim Swan. The background to this was the shortage of new oak barrels. Swan therefore used wine barrels to bring fruity flavours into the whisky. The wood was flavoured by scraping, toasting and re-burning these barrels. Unwanted substances were extracted from the cask and the sweet and fruity notes were emphasised. STR casks give the whisky a balanced, soft profile with hints of red berries, roasted flavours and mild spices - without bitter tannins or strong vanilla.

Die Lindores Abbey Distillery liegt nahe Newburgh in Fife in den schottischen Lowlands mit Blick auf die Mündung des River Tay. Gegründet wurde die moderne Brennerei von Drew und Helen McKenzie Smith auf dem historischen Gelände der ehemaligen Lindores Abbey – jenem Ort, an dem 1494 erstmals schriftlich die Herstellung von Scotch Whisky erwähnt wurde. Damit gilt Lindores Abbey als „spirituelle Heimat des Scotch Whisky“.
