Aroma Delicate notes of sweet peat smoke with burnt heather and a potpourri of rose petals and oak spices. This is followed by crème brulée, strawberries and dried apricots before sweet sugar kelp and flavours of the beach at low tide.
Taste Velvety, with medium peat smoke, sweet pipe tobacco and oak, complemented by meadow flowers, pears, fruit cake, blackberry jam, honey, cloves and cinnamon. Then sweet sugar kelp, smoked oysters, damp coastal forests and fresh fennel.
Finish Oak wood notes with fresh maritime notes, facets of campfire smoke and sweet-salty flavours that remain for a medium-long time.

Product description
Macaloney's Peat Project Red Wine is a Single Malt Whisky made from barley that has been dried over the smoke of peat from the US state of Washington, which has been infused with the algae species sugar kelp. For the maturation process, planed, newly toasted and charred red wine barriques from Portugal were used. 54 ppm paired with the fruity facets from the barrique cask make the whisky a favourite for Peatheads. The Macaloney's Caledonian distillery was founded by three whisky-experienced Scots in Canada. In addition to founder and fermentation expert Dr Graeme Macaloney, ex-Diageo Master Distiller Mike Nicolson and whisky expert Dr Jim Swan, who passed away in 2017, were also involved in the concept.

Aroma: Suesser Rauch gepaart mit einer angenehmen fruchtigen, leicht saeuerlichen Weinnote. Honey Der Seetang kreiert eine interessante maritime, iodine Note.

Taste: Suesser Rauch, Eiche, Honey gefolgt von roten fruechten, und einer maritimen Note

Finish: Dunkle Schokolade, Eiche, Rauch, Rotwein, und malzige Suesse

Comment: Fuer das relativ junge Alter ist dieser Whisky sehr reif, vollmundig und abgerundet. Die Eiche mit Ihren gewuerz und schokoladen Noten ist das Rueckrad, das die fruchtigkeit des Weins, und den suessen, iodine Rauch zusammenhaelt. Insgesammt is dieses ein sehr interessantes experiment, das in meinen Augen ein voller Erfolg war. Ob es nun der Seetang oder die Insellage der Brennerei is weiss ich nicht, aber es handelt sich hier um einen definitiven Insel Whisky, der sehr angenehm die rauheren Noten mit fruchtiger Suesse verbindet.

Kommentar: starker Whisky, dem man die kanadische Herkunft nicht anmerkt. Vielschichtig und komplex, wenn auch noch recht jung. Der Rauch ist dabei weniger stark, als die ppm-Angabe vermuten lässt. Ein bisschen teuer, aber einen Versuch wert für Rauch-Freunde.

Aroma: Zarte Noten von süßem Torfrauch mit gebranntem Heidekraut und einem Potpourri mit Rosenblättern und Eichengewürzen. Dazu Crème brulée, Erdbeeren und getrocknete Aprikosen, ehe süßer Zuckertang folgt und Aromen von Strand bei Ebbe folgen.

Geschmack: Samtig, mit mittelstarkem Torfrauch, süßer Pfeifentabak und Eichenholz, ergänzt durch Wiesenblumen, Birnen, Obstkuchen, Brombeermarmelade, Honig, Nelken und Zimt. Dann süßer Zuckertang, geräucherte Austern, feuchte Küstenwälder und firscher Fenchel.

Abgang: Eichenholznoten mit frischen Maritimennoten, Facetten von Lagerfeuerrauch und süß-salzige Aromen, die mittellang erhalten bleiben.
