William Larue Weller was the first to distil Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey with wheat instead of rye. Even today, only a few Bourbon whiskeys are still produced with wheat.
Weller's bottlings are released by the Buffalo Trace distillery. At 12 years old, the Wheated Bourbon matured for longer than usual.

Nicht schlecht, aber nichts für mich. Das ist mir zuviel Eiche.
Bei den Bourbons gefallen mir die Längergelagerten einfach nicht so recht.
Wenn ich nochmal € 100 bei dieser Brennerei ausgeben wollte, so würde ich mir drei andere statt einer Flasche W.L. Weller aussuchen:
1 Buffalo Trace, 1 Ancient Age und 1 Sazerac Rye .
Damit fahre ich persönlich besser, als mit dem hochgelobten Weller.

Aroma: Viel Vanille, wenig Karamell, leichte Krokant-Schoko-Note, Marzipan und weizenbetont würzig weich. Die Aromen überlagern den Alkohol deutlich! Sehr gut eingebunden.

Geschmack: Weich, weizenwürzig und rund: Wieder viel Vanille, diesmal ordentlich Karamell auch dabei. Ebenso Schokosoße (für Desserts), Krokant, Hafelflocken, frische Marshmellows, ...

Abgang: Mittel bis Lang. Viel weiche Süße mit Vanille-Karamell-Pudding, Mandeln, Pistazien, Schokolinsen und Konfekt.

Kommentar: Ein Bourbon der Spitzenklasse! Weich durch den hohen Weizenanteil und das Alter! Der Preis ist heftig, aber der Genuss und das Verkostungsfeeling sind einfach hammeraffentittengeil! Ich selbst bin ja ein Riesenfan davon wenn beim Bourbon Weizen zum Einsatz kommt. Die Aromen wo sich daraus entwickeln sind einfach wundervoll komplex und facettenreich! Wobei die Preise von solchen Whiskies schnell nach oben gehen! W. L. Weller du hast meinen Gaumen verzaubert!
