The Laizhou Fino Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky comes from one of the most exciting new distilleries in Asia. The Laizhou Distillery was completed in 2021 and combines modern large-scale production with an impressive annual capacity of around 4.8 million litres with the climatic advantages of the traditional region of Qionglai, China. The microclimate there favours particularly intensive and rapid barrel maturation, which is clearly reflected in the character of the whiskies. In terms of technology, Laizhou maximises flexibility with a total of 15 Pot Still and column stills as well as its own cooperage. This allows the distillery to intervene specifically in the flavour design. Both imported barley malt - from Scotland, for example - and local grain varieties from Sichuan are processed. This range is complemented by a broad-based barrel management system with a wide variety of barrel types from all over the world. Selected, certified fino sherry hogsheads from the Spanish sherry heartland are used for the Laizhou Fino Sherry Cask Whisky. Maturation takes place entirely in first-fill sherry casks, which gives the whisky a clear, strong character. Its profile is correspondingly complex with slightly salty notes that meet fresh, slightly acidic accents and leave a subtle sweetness. Overall, the whisky is lively, balanced and elegant rather than heavy. The Laizhou Fino Sherry Cask Single Malt is bottled with a focus on the unadulterated cask character - the influence of the casks is clearly in the foreground and significantly shapes the style and aroma at 46% vol.

Herstellerbeschreibungon 25.03.2026Aroma: Zimt- und Zedernholzaromen verbinden sich elegant mit Noten von Rosinen, gesalzenen Pflaumen und chinesischen Datteln, hinzu kommen Akzente von braunem Zucker und geröstete Nüsse.
Geschmack: Karamell und Lakritz bilden eine ölig-süßlichen Auftakt und gehen langsam in eine schöne Sherrywürze mit Eichenholzaromen über.
Abgang: Lakritz und die vielschichtigen Sherryfass-Anklänge bleiben mittellang erhalten und enden mit süßlichen Facetten.

Kommentar: ein komplexer Whisky. Ich hatte beim verkosten immer Erdbeere und dunkle Schokolade dabei, natürlich sherry mit einer schönen Würze. Die 46 Prozent tun ihn gut.
